Can We Get Engaged? (2013)
49min · Documentary, Drama, History · 1 January 2013
In 1973, Bernice and Wally Kegel, a young interfaith couple from South Africa, make a phone call home revealing their secret, forbidden courtship and announcing their engagement. 40 years later, the Kegels, still very much in love, reflect on this controversial moment and its implications for their family. The filmmakers, the children of the featured couple, spark an inter-generational dialog about the challenges of the parent-child relationship. A beautifully told coming-of-age love story, with a delicious mix of scandal, tragedy, and humor, 'Can We Get Engaged?' explores our most human desire, to be loved and accepted.
